Year
I address you, now, dear master,
As your loyal friend;
As that one I look up to;
On whom I, continually, depend.
And I trust that you will listen
To what I have to say.
And, I'll, herewith, get on with it,
So, there will be no delay.
When you come home after a long day,
I'm right there waiting for you.
I greet you in my own usual canine way,
With a wag and a lick or two.
And, in the evening, I lay at your feet
While you relax in your easy chair.
I'm so grateful you are my master,
And that, for me, you are always there.
And you take me for rides in your car,
And do all that you can do
To pamper an old friend,
And a genuinely loving one, too.
You always feed me on time,
And make sure I've a place to sleep.
There's very little I need to do for you
In order to earn my keep.
And, yet, I have a grievance, of a sort;
A matter I wish to air.
It's something I've held in for a while,
And, now, I want to, of this, make you aware.
All of those licks I give you
Are meant to convey my affection.
Yes, when I wish to show my love for you,
It's shown in this connection.
For, you see, we, canines, have feelings, too;
We genuinely feel from deep inside.
And those feelings that we have
Are very real and cannot be denied.
And, as my master, I'm sure you mean well,
So, I'll cut you a little slack.
But, what I'm sayin' is, it hurts my feelings
That you never lick me back!
As your loyal friend;
As that one I look up to;
On whom I, continually, depend.
And I trust that you will listen
To what I have to say.
