A chilly mountain, walking about the verdant green: | 寒山 轉蒼翠 |
Autumn waters, the sun, a trickling stream. | 秋水 日潺湲 |
Leaning on my cane, the wooden gate outside, | 倚杖 柴門外 |
Facing the wind, and listening to cicadas at dusk. | 臨風 聽暮蟬 |
On the ferry pier, a remnant sun is setting | 渡頭 餘落日 |
And from the village, a solitary smoke is rising. | 墟里 上孤煙 |
Remembering our time here, you were drunk, like the mad man of Chu, | 復值 接輿醉 |
And I was singing wildly, like the poet Tao of Jin. | 狂歌 五柳前 |

1. Background: Gangchuan is the place where Wang Wei lived a secluded life. It’s said he spent over thirty years there.
