about the date man designates
as New Year’s Eve. They search for mates,
shelter and food while droves of preachers

tell us that the end is nigh.
Ring out the old, ring in the new?
But what’s in store for me and you?
Live forever? Or have to die?

The world’s far better than before:
less ciggies, hunger, crime, and war.
Pandemics, too, are at a low.

While we’ve got plenty still to mire us:
climate change, technology
addiction, or obesity,
let’s let the positive inspire us.
