Prince Caesar strode the ruined streets of Rome
With presents for the peasants home,
Throwing breadcrumbs in vain disdain
To the roving leeches, adoration feigned.

The filthy horde did writhe along his route,
To raise up as King this new-found brute
In power’s raw pursuit. A monarchy created,
The free men fell prostrated.

Caesar built his marble palace
With the masses’ enduring malice,
Celebrating his homecoming parade
With stolen riches, proudly displayed.

Rome did last through thick and thin,
Until, at last, devoured within.
