stony path

ascending the clouds

of God’s wrath

~~

her backbone

borne of fiery past

a Sun alone

~~

bearing the world

in a demon grip

she heaves the heat in air

~~

maintaining her cool

in a man’s world

but setting the rules

~~

hanging

by a string

suspended

~~

she gave a purr

and who’d ensure

that he’d endure

~~

LOST:

a Times Square tour

without allure

~~

I swear

I want to forbear

But it’s just not there

~~

Her soul

A bond of fortitude

Sharing life with gratitude

~~

On the footpath of forbearance

I hear whispers
of charity

~~

a trance

of Hudson

on the other side

~~

A girl with grit

can ride a bit

~~

unequal heart

endures

the silent cold

~~

Is it what you thought

the pillowed houses

you never bought?

~~

the trials that drag the soul
in times we wonder
if God is watching

~~

a glass of wine

with loving arms

entwined

~~

a bird is pecking

a tune

at silent noon

~~

the screams we bear

give birth

to newborn cries

~~

a fruit so sweet

I want

its breed and seed

~~

skin wrinkles

and body withers

but the eyes grow ever sparkling

~~

my soul awaits

what my heart

endures

~~

a flogged man with wounded salt

can only dream

of a New World

~~

the chronic beats

and needled sounds

as one approaches light

~~

When all is thrown away

your arms hold

a dog that’s gone astray

~~

we sail a sea

bereft of charity

thinking of the other side

~~

you, my brother

endured the slaps

of melted time

~~

they toil free

of poem and song

and carry the country along

~~

the wars have never stopped

from Caesar to Bin Laden

and who comes out on top?

~~

the best men

show themselves

with a bit of zen

~~

gold and name

without the daily train

will sometimes leave you ashamed

~~

he boasts an average IQ

but shows the genius

of cunning

Note: written with the Haiku Heights 3/24/12 prompt of "endurance" in mind. For this challenge, I will write at least one in traditional 3-5-3 or 5-7-5 form but the rest will be quite free, though sticking to the concept of the haiku as conveying a single concept or image.
