Crismon stained the cold white snow
Gunshots and shouts ring out below
Bullets whiz past the scene
Where she finds him in a bloody pool
And realizes that war is cruel.

Soldiers scream and sirens blare
As civilians die here and there
She sees him struggling to take a breath
The idea dawns like the rising sun
The war does not have to be won!

She starts to bind the soldier’s torso
But he began to scream even more so
She realizes he won’t get through the night
And stoically watches her brother die
As she thinks to herself, I must try.

She ducks and dodges bullets and the fight
Her white nurse’s uniform blazing bright
She finds the heart of the battle
And climbs up a rock to speak her piece
When she does, she watches the fighting cease

She starts to speak; her voice rings clear
“Friends, countrymen, why are we here?
A war over what? Territory? Opinions? Money?
Why, I just watched as my brother died
His best friend fought for the other side.

My brother met him on the field
Instead of fighting, he chose to yield.
He couldn’t kill his childhood friend
He chose relationship in the end.
His last words were, ‘This I’ll defend.’

His best friend watched as my brother took a blow
Meant for his friend, his supposed foe.
The sniper was shocked, and aimed again
My brother’s friend silently said a prayer
As he was hit, and joined my brother in the air.

Both of these men chose to do right
By not harming each other, and stopping their fight
Please, I beg, take their example
I cannot lose another sister or brother
Because of the quarrel of another

It is not our place to harm or take a life
Please stop the fight; end the strife”
The nurse gazed with pleading eyes at the people
gathered below
Who stared wide-eyed as the nurse crumpled to the
ground with grace
They swore they saw tears in her eyes, and a look of
peace on her face.

The nurse died on the field that day and found the
sweet by and by
Because of her sacrifice, peace drew nigh
The fighting stopped, guns were dropped, and
Leaders came together, and made peace by fighting for the good of their land
And all because the grief-stricken nurse decided to
take a stand.
