There she was again standing in front of me,
Looking very plain and homely,
stirring no emotion, igniting no passion.
It’s been over 30 years since I met her last
and couldn’t help but wonder what it was
of her that so hopelessly attracted me.
Back in high school she was a perfect 10,
The center of my world,
he reigned over my thoughts and dreams.
And then my world fell apart
when she jilted me and married my best friend.
But here she is now standing just next to me
And yet seems so far away,
babbling away trifling things.
Funny how time has a way of
belittling our loftiest dreams,
Ridiculing our fervent ideals,
Wearing out our most passionate longings –
But also healing our deepest wounds –
If we but give time some time.
