A cry of agony piercing through the night She doesn’t restrain or put up much of a fight. Heart of lead, feet dragging across the ground Her soul leaden with secrets, though it doesn’t make a sound. She blames those around her, especially those who cared Yet not once she asked for help, not once laid her soul bare. Her demons thrashing within, relentlessly controlling Making her go the distance with their loud roaring. The cliff zooms into vision with impending doom Dripping with death, darkness and gloom She takes a step forward, as there’s no turning back now And all she could think was ‘What got me here? And HOW?’ The older you get, the frailer your heart gets Acquisition becomes prior, the more we tend to fret The light once so beckoning, extinguishes inside Leaving a burning, gaping hole, we are inclined to hide Flashes of birthdays, christenings and weddings Moments well spent, moments of awakening The first time she went to a carnival with her father A screaming match with her mom or a surprise party for her brother Tears started flowing free and she fell down to her knees All the grief she was at war with and all those silent pleas She realised how much she had to lose And a moment of weakness made her choose Her life wasn’t just hers, but so many entwined She refused to let the crippling sadness ever reign over her mind
