I sleep alone now,
A luxury I can afford,
I think I have earned it.
I snore and break wind at will.
I sleep in the middle,
I turn, toss and roll
and hog the bed;
It’s my domain,
I rule the roost.

Two pillows under my head
One under my arm
One between my legs
One leaning on the back,
and one in the front.

No one is trying to snuggle
beside me making sensual overture,
There are no more fantasies
invading my dreams,
Just a gang of small aches and pains
ravaging my body, off and on.

I wear a woolen cap on my bald head
and pull it down over my eyes
to shut the world out.

I leave the door open, just in case.

When I wake up
I lift the edge of the cap and sneak a peek –

Oh, shit! another day.
