Snuggled in close,
white, cotton socks,
fluffy hair,
a children’s book,
or two, or three.

        Angel of God,
        my guardian dear,

Your smell,
wet dough and powder.

        to whom her love
        commits me here

We were perfect then,
our prayers, protection.

        and ever this day,
        be at my side

If I could crawl inside
your big sweater,

        to light and guide

live forever in your voice
singing to the radio,

        to rule and guard.

tracing the scar
across your forehead.

        Amen.
