The Wreck

She broke amidships: as the hull
Parted, the boxes from the hold
Poured crashing out, and she went down
Into a sea of ruddy gold:

And in a twinkling I was dropped
Into the swallow and the strife
Of surf, to battle in a swirl
Of floating oranges for life.
