A White Tree in Bloom

Under the yellow sun,
O can there be
Anything lovelier
Than a white tree?
Apricot, damson, quince,
Apple or plum—
Under the sun's gold fire
These smite you dumb.

Under the yellow moon,
Ghostly and fair,
Dogwood, wild-cherry tree,
Hawthorn or pear—
See how they strangely burn
Whiter than all things white;
Such trees can bring us dreams
Dreamed on no other night.
Under the sun, the moon,
O can there be
Anything lovelier
Than a white tree?

Under the yellow sun,
O can there be
Anything lovelier
Than a white tree?
Apricot, damson, quince,
Apple or plum—
Under the sun's gold fire
These smite you dumb.

Under the yellow moon,
Ghostly and fair,
Dogwood, wild-cherry tree,
Hawthorn or pear—
See how they strangely burn
Whiter than all things white;
Such trees can bring us dreams
Dreamed on no other night.
Under the sun, the moon,
O can there be
Anything lovelier
Than a white tree?
