Upon the Suddain rise of my Cuntry Men and their defeat by Collonel Manneringe and Brown the woodmong[e]r July 24. 1643. at Tunbridg
How Time turnes up-side down and Fortune failes
In favoring the Round-Heads gainst Long-tayles
For He that would a skoar of years agoe
'Plac't Heer the Victory, ther the overthrow
Might have grown rich through wagering: how ere
The Proverb sets out Kent and Darby-shere
Famous both at one end: the Latter tries
With his round-headed Hills to kiss the skies
Whilst th'Others woods and hedges muster thus
Imbatteld under Generall Orpheus
Else had not Conquest now been new: 'ts a thing
Worth noting how their Foes in Mannering
Th'affaires proceed and Countermine their Plott
Which formerly prevaild so strait wayes gott
One verc't in Coal and wood and Him they sent
To Overthrow the Sturdy Oake of K.
I doubt They were but Sapling Undertakers
Soe ther remain enow to make Wise-Akers
Thus whilst 'twixt head and taile ther are such Bleedings
Ther's left skearce head or tayle in all proceedings.
