My body was a hard winter and spring came out of
Season and with no reason like laughter shaking
An unfilled belly. My clock has no chimes and
Its ticks are the footsteps of a drunkard
Ascending an unlit staircase. I challenge any
Flower to bloom out of time regardless of color
Or smell. I want to prove to the nostrils of even
A mail carrier that all messages are
Not in his oily bag. Breezes blow through my
Quiet flesh like sunlight through sea-water
Where there are few ships and no land. If my heart
Is not a bell proclaiming a new monarch it is
Not the flag of an adventurer with no islands
On which to land with a court of deaf whisperers.
