Flicked from the waves by the wind,
Light in the sun the spray leaps—
Yet wide as the world the wind sweeps,
And who shall sound the sea-deeps?

Born of man's dream at the touch
Of time's pinion, the song lightly leaps—
Yet, eagle-winged, onward time sweeps,
And who shall sound the heart's deeps?

And, light as the spray or the song may be,
Out of the depths of a fathomless sea
They flicker to life through eternity.
