Sie haben mich gequälet

Many have made me wretched,
Made mine an evil fate;
Some of them with their loving,
Some of them with their hate.

My cup has been filled with poisons,
They poisoned the bread I ate;
Some of them with their loving,
Some of them with their hate.

Yet she, whose poison made me
Wretched all men above,
Gave me no word of hatred, —
And not a spark of love.
