On the shore of the dark wild sea
Alone I am roaming
While sounds its voice mournfully
Through the dim gloaming

O those deep hollow tones
Sad thoughts inspire
They swell like the thrilling moans
From breeze swept lyre

Echos from rock & cave
Solemnly dying
Answer the howling wave
Mock the wind's sighing

Far in the silent sky
Wandering worlds quiver
Thus they shall beam on high
Changeless for ever

But ere another moon
Silvers the billow
Ocean will be my tomb
Sea-sand my pillow

Then my unhallowed name
None shall remember
Gone like the dying flame
Quenched like the ember
