We are very lonely,
We seekers after Beauty.
For we walk strange paths of silence . . . .

We go where none have trodden,
Thirsting and alone—
Dizzy under the stars.

What will appease our dreams?
And what assuage our need
Of loveliness?

Immaculate Beauty!
Why must we suffer
To attain your kingdom?

We are very lonely,
We seekers after Beauty,
For there is the thirst of ages in our souls. . . .
