Author
She says " Right O! " She never smirks
Nor simpers, nods, nor shakes her head;
She rises with the dawn and works
For those who want a meal or bed.
And when they come in late at night
And hint of supper, meek and low —
Like big Bush boys — well, that's alright;
She pokes the fire and says " Right O! "

I met her first at Goondah camp
Three months ago, or maybe more;
Where tourists trip and navvies tramp
Like elephants across the floor.
But bound for Sheol, or Burrinjuck,
No class distinctions doth she know —
Corn beef to boil? or fowls to pluck?
Best bed, or bunk? She says " Right O! "

I'd been where poultry farmers skite,
And pigs are mighty in the State;
But eggs or ham — you'll find I'm right —
Most seldom grace your breakfast plate;
Where you get half-a-spud a day,
Though jim-jam vegetables grow:
But I digress — as is my way:
I asked for eggs. She said " Right O! "

" The train is due, yeh runnin' late, "
She said. " So, if you wanter go,
You take them eggs; that bloke can wait. "
(The Casual Bloke remarked " Right O! " )
He was a grinful Bloke and tall.
They said he " popped " six months ago
And, when she'd heard his little all,
She thought awhile, and said " Right O! "

The parson wears a sack-suit there,
Just like an ordinary bloke;
And you, no matter what you wear,
Can tell to him your little joke.
But when he asks if she'll have Jim
(Jim Hall, the mountain guide, you know),
I'll take my oath she'll look at him
As at a child, and say " Right O! "

Black Jimmie brings the wood and things
That come by rail so very slow;
He brings the water from the springs
In times of drought — she says " Right O! "
The children come with " Mother sed — " ,
The local drunk with " Christ's sake! Flo " ,
And tramps and swagmen to be fed
And rationed in — she says " Right O! "

On these great plains where very few
Succeed, and failures fight and joke,
I've come to take a broader view
And cleaner view of womenfolk.
But Land of Mine! and people mine!
And Lord and Lady! Dook and Hurl!
I'll drink in Riverina wine —
Though it kill me dead — " The Right O Girl " .
