Charming tea, enchanting liquour,
Makes dear scandal flow the quicker;
Polishes the rough by nature,
To the prude it lends keen satire,
Helps politest conversation,
And gives glory to a nation.

Sword and sceptre, mace and mitre,
Can they pass their time politer
Than in parties at quadrille,
Basto, Punto, and Spadille?
These refine and make men civil;
Vulgar Cribbage is the devil.
