The courtyard, quiet—
I hear sparse rain;
trees stand tall—
they catch winds from far places.
Autumn sounds join the cicadas' voices;
cold colors tinge the paulownia trees.
From my short bed, in lonely lamplight—
barbarian pipes echoing in ten thousand wells.
At heaven's edge, this traveler
tonight is remembering his home at River-East.
