It is a stain on one's honor to make a request, saying “Give me something!”
but to answer with “I will give nothing!” is a still greater stain!
To offer someone a gift, saying “Take this!” is a lofty act and yet
it is even more lofty an action to respond, “I will not accept it!”
People in need of water will not drink from the great ocean where
an expanse of limpidly clear water spreads out roaring with waves,
but when a site has drinkable water, even if it may be small and muddy
and roiled by the horses and cows who make their way there to drink,
many paths will lead to it. When those who are in need think of kings
and go to them, then they cannot insult them. It is the times and the omens
that are to be blamed! And so I will not hate you. May your life,
Ori! be a long one! You who are a generous man, you who give
gifts without setting any limits as if you
were some cloud filled with thunder and lightning in the sky!
