D READ'ST thou lest thou should'st die unknown?
Why fear? since all the strength of Fame
And Death have this poor power alone, —
To give thee an uncertain fame.

The critic dull and envious bard
Will quarrel o'er thine ashes dear;
That past, — thy single sad reward
Must be some lonely lover's tear!
