To a Pair of Learnéd Ladies Who Make the Songs They Sing

Melody was less divine
When the Muses numbered nine
Than now, when, informed by you,
Song and Wisdom need but two.

Many swear—and well, by heaven!—
That they never miss the Seven,
Each of you within her breast
Having all the Nine possessed!
