Ode — To a frend in Imitation of these 1648
Ned — might I sit
In a black Chimny Corner closs by Thee
With comfortable Ale and Tost
Brown as the Berry Nutt, or Rost
Presented in a Bowle Resembling it
With what Content, with what Securety
Would I imbalme my quiet and Conclude
All Fortunes else to be but Interlude.
Thorp when I name
The Neen, the Ancient Burrough and the Meer
Clayme Their remembrances as due
And though remote bring back to you
That hart and that Affections still the same
All of distrust and Jealousy to cleer
Soe that when hopes our Contemplations rear
To second meeting they may banish fear.
That's Incident
To those Great places in the State posess
Whither Imployd to Furle, to Hale
To Trim to Steer in every Gale
The Great Rich Carack of the Parlement
Which as it out sayles all soe all goe less
Yet ther's left happines for him that can
Neither be Chayre nor yet Committe man.
A good warme herth
With a Plump, Buxom, Blith, and Bonny Lass
For nature's help, and the fier fed
With wood had nere been Sequestred
To yeild a cleerer Flame to truer merth,
Next the Great Loafe, and Rib of Martemas
To which when Hopps are cheap and malt grown deer
Wee'l quit our nut brown Ale and drink March beer.
