1. For lo! my Jonah how he slumped, In seas and whale so deep,
2. And I oft did, and do, confess That I no less deserved
Because the Lord's commandèment He did refuse to keep.
As having from the duties of My calling no less swerved.

3. No marvel then that I was cast
Into the sea and whale,
And that such horrid, hellish darts
Against me did prevail.

4. But Jonah in those woeful depths
Did pray unto his God,
And so have I done, often-times,
Under his heavy rod.

5. Yet, O dear brethren that survive
Do not account me lost,
Whom Christ redeemèd by his blood,
And at so great a cost.

6. With Jonah now I'm cast ashore;
The whale could not me keep,
But in my saviour Jesus Christ,
I sweetly fell asleep.
