Immortality

I DIED once, but I came to life
With pain that stabbed me like a knife;

And once again I know I died—
Afraid! And yet that shell flew wide.

A singing bullet cut the air;
I said a catch of a childish prayer—

‘If I should die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul to take.
