The American poet Whitman
Did little to assist the razor industry,
But he erected a plausible philosophy
Of indolence
Which, without soft concealments,
He called Loafing .
This so irritated the American people
(Who were busy putting up buildings
And tearing them down again)
That they never forgave him.
He was deficient in humour,
But he had a good time.
