Light of my home, light of my heart,
Dear maid so gentle and so fair,
So free from every stain or art,
So lovely and so debonair.

How shall I treat thee as I ought,
How render the affection due;
How clothe with fitting words my thought
Of one so beautiful and true,

And not affect the flatterer's role,
And not awaken deep within
The inner chambers of thy soul,
A vanity allied to sin?
