I did not keep the Rose he brought,
After its day;
Although it lived a longer time
Than other roses may.

I let it go the way of all,
For this one fear:
Because it might persuade my heart
That he was growing dear.

But now my heart is well assured;
And I still sing;
And no one here would ever know
That I miss anything!
