Fayne woulde I : but I dare not.
I dare : but yet I maye not:
I maye allthough I care not
For pleasure when I playe not.

You laughe, because you lyke not.
I jeast and yet I joye not.
You pearce, allthoughe you stryke not.
I stryke and yet annoye not.

I spye wheras I speak not.
For ofte I speak and speed not:
But of my wound you wreak not;
Because you se they bleed not:

Yet bleed they wher you see not.
But you the payne indure not.
Of noble myndes they be not
That ever kyll and cure not.

I see, whenas I vewe not.
I wishe, allthoughe I crave not.
I serve, and yet I swe not.
I hope for that I have not.

I catche, allthoughe I houlde not.
I burne, allthoughe I flame not.
I seeme, whenas I would not:
And when I seeme I am not.

Yours am I, thoughe I seeme not:
And willbe thoughe I showe not.
Myne owtwarde deeds then deeme not,
When myne intent you knowe not.

But if my servyce prove not
Most sure, allthoughe I swe not,
With-drawe your mynde and love not,
Nor of my ruyne vwe not.
