The Eternal Question

Monsters beneath the wave, —
Birds that steer to a star;
The sea below
And the sea above
Where the fishes go,
Or the eagles are.

Billows and sails and storms,
Keels and tides — or the strife
Of wings that rise
In a sea of blue
To the bluer skies
And a fuller life.
