A dierge for hasty ginny
Sithence 'tis decreed, the path of Death
Must trodden be by evry thing hath breath
And that thear is a Middnight drest
Wherin all living Creatures shall take rest
And sithence again it is most sure
That what's most violent will least endure
Let it less wonder breed to see
The hast of my poor Ginnies Destany
Who, had the Earth more been her frend
Than was the fier, She'd not soe soon to th'end
Of her race run wher for a prize
The haight of mettle crownes her, as she dies
How many jades as slowe and dull
As Bufeloes or Asses, yet are full
Of years; and though the mark were out
Long sithence, at drawing still seem wondrous stout
O let not such invitement have
To wayt upon my Ginny to her grave
But if ther be yet leaft a race
Of Coursers, Jennetts, or Barbes to embrace
This service, lett such sacrefize
Some tears heer at their Kindreds Obsequies.
Let Peg-a briggs be calld to mourn
And send into the North for Pepper corn
Lett Bess-a Brackley weep for Her
And little Robin with th'red stomacher
And if ther be of Puppy kind
Yett leaft, let them not leav a tear behind
Lett Marigould white and Red-Rose power
Forth siths for her: Lett Primrose, Gilliflower
And Tulipe amidst that Dewe
Her herse with their Enameld leavs bestrew
And for a Favour to this Fate
White Ribband shall that duty personate
Wherin Her silver haires shall be
Wov'n and bequeath'd unto posterity
That evry one may see and knowe
This was the silken-silver mane did flowe
From Her thin Crest, and as she went
Shot at the wind out of a bowe still bent
By the controwling raynes did sway
Her Serpent Head, and teach it to obey
Wherin a pair of eyes were set
Of Lightninges quicknes, though in couler jett
Twixt which a forehead broad did lie
Stampt with the Signe of Courage very high
From whence in Label did descend
Her narrow Face and Nose Hawkt towrds the end
Wher two wide Nostrells did implie
In red wax seales Her Mettles Sovranty
And whilst Her narrow Eares did stur
Her wide mouth lined seemd with minifurr
And though the breadth which should adorn
Her Buttocks, on Her goodly brest was borne
Yett take Her alltogeather She
Seemd the True Ofspring of a Barbery
Her strait flatt leggs, high coffind hooves
Did speak noe less, but were suffitient proofs
Well: now she's gon, who while alive
To top the formost hound soe wont to strive
Now the contentions turnd and They
Ambitious are which shall a fleeter way
Invent to be revengd. This takes
A lim; th Entrailes t'others feasting makes
And thus interrd, none can deny
But She again shall run, and did not Die.
