Of the current coin, I wonder, Can it be assay they take,
So that all the cloister-keepers In transgression's way they take?
This my deeming is that lovers Should all business leave and hold
On some loveling's curling browlocks Should, for present stay, they take
Well and wisely do the topers To the skinker's tress-tip cling,
So, if treach'rous Fate forsake them, Something stable may they take.
Since no shame the raven thinketh On the rose to tread, 'tis fit
For the bulbuls that, for shelter, To the thorn-set spray they take.
Vaunt thee not of continence's Strength of arm before the fair;
In this tribe, with one sole horseman, Strongholds, wellaway! they take.
How sharp-set, alack! for bloodshed Be these children of the Turks!
With the arrows of the eyelash, At each glance, a prey they take.
Sweet the dance is to sweet singing And the wail of flutes; the hand,
More by token, when, in dancing, Of some lovesome may they take.
Nothing, Hafiz, of the wretched Reck the people of the time:
Better 'twere if, from amongst them, To a corner (say) they take.
