At Cross-Roads

One singing road we travelled both together,
All day long side by side;
Now that the night is falling on the heather,
Our ways divide.

If thou choose one path, I shall choose the other—
The whither, who can tell?
But ere we part I call to thee: My brother,
Hail and farewell!
