He propped his hook against the hedge,
And sat down to his bread and cheese;
And, slowly munching it, he said—
Some folk are gey and hard to please!

You'd think a lumping lad like you,
With not enough brains in his head
To fash him, would be glad to get
A job to earn him board and bed—

An easy job, like breaking stones,
And not a care! Ah well, ah well,
At your age, I was crazy, too—
Just daft to keep a wife mysel'!
