Come, comrade, come, that roses strew And wine in bowl that cast we may;
Heav'n's roof that rend and up anew At will the whole that cast we may!
If sorrow raise a host to shed The blood of lovers, then and there
I and the skinker hasten, down The base of dole that cast we may;
That we rose-water in the cup Of Redbud-coloured wine may pour
And in the censer of the breeze, Sugar for toll that cast we may.
Since, minstrel, here's a goodly lute, A sweet song sing, that we our hands
May clap and dancing, so from side To side the poll that cast we may.
Unto that sovran of the fair The dust of our existence waft,
East wind, a glance upon her face, Our vision's goal, that cast we may.
One man of reason boasteth him; Another weaveth whirling words;
Come, these disputes before the Judge Of form and soul that cast we may.
If heav'n on earth thou'dst have, with us Unto the tavern come to day,
Thee into Kauther-pool, by means Of jar and bowl, that cast we may.
Sweet speech nor eloquence they prize In Shiraz town: come, Hafiz, come,
Ourselves upon some other land, 'Twixt pole and pole, that cast we may.
