The Chaffinch flies fast
To the red cherry tree,
And sings as he goes:
“All for me! All for me!”

The Speckled Brown Thrush
Upon fluttering wing
Goes flying and scolds:
“Greedy thing! Greedy thing!”

The chattering Starling
He visits there, too,
And cries as he flies:
“Leave a few! Leave a few!”

But the Blackbird retreats
As the others advance,
And calls to them, laughing:
“Not a chance! Not a chance!”
