Acrostic , Addressed to , An
Miss
So much of Elegance and Ease,
Unite to form thy Pow'r to please;
Such sweet Propriety of Mein,
As amply fits a Goddess Queen;
No more let Paphian Venus boast,
Nor Waldgrave be the only Toast;
Angelic Maid! thee, I declare,
How much superior to that Fair!
How weak, how languid are my Lays,
Unless you deign to smile my Praise;
To give your Worth its Merits due,
Can I attempt, not fir'd by Y OU ?
Here let me then invoke thy Aid,
Inspire your Poet, Heav'n-born Maid;
Nor let my fervent, zealous Pray'r,
Suffer a cool indignant Air;
On me your chearful Radiance dart,
Nor deeper wound, but glad my Heart.
