To Venuleius these two books commend,
And beg that he to us his leisure lend
As kindly critic, nor for business care,
And for these trifles his attention spare.
But give them to him midway through the feast,
Not when it starts nor when it just has ceased;
And if two seem too much, then split the ream;
The work divided thus will briefer seem.
