The Rocket

Into the night
The rocket soars:
Ah, could but I
In flashing flight
O'er the dull lamps
Of earth swing high —
One moment poise
And perish there
In the full blaze
Of kindled air:
What matter though
A charred stick fall
Into the night
That swallows all.
