Upon Seeing Mr. Barry and Mrs. Dancer

Upon seeing Mr . BARRY and Mrs . DANCER in the Characters of R OMEO and J ULIET .

I.

" There was a Time, (cries Cynic-Elf,)
When B ARRY 's noble Fire
Fill'd ev'ry Breast with Heart-felt Joy,
With Rapture and Desire.

II.

But now, alas! how strangely chang'd!
Old Age " — I'll hear no more;
Last Night I saw our Romeo shine
E'en brighter than before.

III.

His Figure how attractive fine,
His Action 'bove Compare;
And not an Equal to be found,
If Dancer was not there.

IV.

Hail to the Juliet of the Age,
With grateful, best Regard;
Thy Praises thus in honest Lay,
From the impartial Bard.

V.

Old Drury must not, cannot die,
Whilst G ARRICK'S Genius reigns;
A B ARRY — lovely Dancer too —
Forbid Oblivion's Chains.

VI.

Then say not Covent Garden Chiefs
Deserve your only Care;
Leave Prejudice at Home, you'll find
An equal Pleasure here.
