The Queen of My Heart

With mother-love I am wrapped about!
And I'll hold it fast in my heart's redoubt,
For mother's love is worth more to me
Than all the gems in the depths of the sea.
I have uncles and aunts and relations galore;
My affections are scattered on these and some more;
Yet mother has always had her part,
And she has been ever the queen of my heart.

'T is said that, when I am older grown,
And have a family of my own,
The love that now is so deep and strong,
Will shrink to make room for the new love-throng.
I may have babes, and nephews, and nieces galore,
I may scatter affection to every shore!
But mother will never lose her part,
And she shall be ever the queen of my heart.
