The Husking
The golden ears lie piled up high
Tossed down with shout and laughter;
The sun shines golden in the sky
And gilds each massive rafter.
The red leaves softly flutter by
And join in dances far and nigh.
Ho! lads and merry maidens all,
This ends the work of summer;
Break down each rustling cornstalk tall
And welcome this new comer—
This autumn wind, which makes leaves fall,
And crowns the year with festival.
Tossed down with shout and laughter;
The sun shines golden in the sky
And gilds each massive rafter.
The red leaves softly flutter by
And join in dances far and nigh.
Ho! lads and merry maidens all,
This ends the work of summer;
Break down each rustling cornstalk tall
And welcome this new comer—
This autumn wind, which makes leaves fall,
And crowns the year with festival.
