Classic Poem

With Song and Dance grotesque, Historians say
The Jews, did homage to the ark display!
We Christians, more refined, do pious airs,
And holy Anthems, mingle with our prayers.

No more distorted gestures now we see
But show devotion on our bended knee!
Meek, tho' sincere our orisons should rise
To Him, who sits enthroned above the skies.

Let ev'ry note in harmony accord
When we in Song address the living Lord:
And silence, with her eloquent control
Give Music grace, to elevate the Soul.
